Interlaken is a town in the canton of Bern in Switzerland. It is a well-known tourist destination in central Switzerland near the Alps. Aare River flows through town.
Interlaken is located between Lake Brienz and Lake Thun from east to west. The town itself takes its name from its geographical position between the lakes (in Latin inter lacus - but the name itself has been used only since 1891, replacing the old name Aarmühle).
