Disentis – the idyllic free-rider Mecca!
Disentis is located in the Surselva Valley in the canton of Graubünden, where the Medelser Rhine and the Vorderrhein flow into each other. The cosy, growing resort is situated at 1,150 m altitude, quite a bit away from the pulsating resorts and is known to be the centre of the Rhaetro-Romanic language. The ski area reaches up to nearly 3,000 m and is an insider's tip for free riders and boarders. 60 km of vast, prepared pistes as well as countless deep powder snow descents are a guarantee for lots of diversity. A cultural highlight is a visit to the widely visible monastery, the oldest Benedictine abbey in Switzerland. Also one of the oldest sheep wool processing factories of Switzerland is worth a visit. In the Bündener Highlands you will find many culinary specialties,as for instance Capuns alla tatta, Bizzochels or Maluns, which you must give a try! Extraordinary activities like heliskiing, snowtubing or building Igloos round off a vast offer of leisure time activities.
SkiWith the "Disentis 3000" lift pass you will have access to the homonymous ski area, which is situated between 1,227 m - 2,833 m. Disentis is a true secret tip for free riders and snowboarders. Pistes in various grades of difficulty, with a total of 60 kilometres and 9 lifts provide much diversity. The piste situated below the Gendusas - Lai Alv chairlift has an experts-only terrain.
Not far from the lifts are countless unprepared slopes where you can still find unmarked deep powder areas. The diverse landscape between the rocks and peaks offers an impressive snowboarder’s playground.
Rediscover the Wild West in the Tipi Nevada on Gendusas, where you can drink fire-water and Native American tea. A great alternative is the sun terrace at the Lai Alv, where guests can enjoy the beautiful panorama while eating giant slices of pizza. In the village people meet up in the Canorta Bar in the Hotel Caucagna with happy hour and a lively atmosphere or in the disco Postigliun. Disentis has a large après ski programme prepared for its visitors.
For a bit of fun try out the newest sporting trend snow-tubing on the snowy hill Sax. For those looking for unique adventure activities can book in resort heli-skiing or skiing tours. Further possibilities are curling, ice hockey, snow-shoe hiking, horse and dog-sled riding, ice skating, paragliding, climbing and tandem flights. In the Disentis sports centre alone there are more than 20 types of indoor sporting offers. Water lovers should check out the Bogn Sedrun Pool and Wellness Oasis in Sedrun or the public pool in Disentiserhof. Eskimos at heart can book an evening of learning the art of igloo building, including romantic bonfire.

In Surselva Valley from Trun to Sedrun there are 45 kilometres of diverse cross-country skiing tracks (classic and skating), which can be used with the regional cross-country pass CADI.
From Disentis starts a 35 km long track in the beautiful landscape of the Rhine all the way to Trun. From there a return journey with the train is possible. Additional, there is a 2 km and a 5 km long night track which are lit from 19:00 - 22:00. For beginners there is also a 2 km long round track to practice on.
