About Meiringen - presentation, information, photos and recommendations
Meiringen - winter holiday for the whole family!
The lively resort Meiringen is one of the most famous in the lovely Bernese Oberland. The main resort of the sunny Hasli Valley is situated at approx. 600 m altitude at the foot of the Rothorn and allows easy access to the ski area by taking either the gondola from Meiringen to Hasliberg Reuti, or taking the car. The village was largely made famous through the dessert "meringues" and the creator of Sherlock Holmes, who used the resort as a setting in one of his books. Therefore, it is not surprising that you can visit a Sherlock Holmes museum in Meiringen. Furthermore, Meiringen offers a comprehensive selection of leisure activities for young and old, so you are sure to experience both and entertaining but also relaxing winter holiday.
SkiWith the "Meiringen-Hasliberg" lift pass you have access to an excellent ski area at an altitude of between 1,055 and 2,433 metres. The total of 60 kilometres of piste are connected through 15 lifts and numerous cosy lodges and mountain restaurants line the slopes.
On various intermediate level runs you can fully enjoy the snow landscape. In the upper part of the ski area the rather steep pistes are to be found, including the most difficult"Nordpol" piste (1.5 km length): the former World Cup piste from Planplatten waits to be challenged with an altitude difference of 540 m! The longest descent also has the longest name: Glogghüs-Hohsträss-Käserstatt-Balisalp-Hohfluh measures approx. 10 km in length and offers first class skiing pleasure.
The Mägisalp, with its great deep powder snow areas, is waiting to be explored! Freeriders will also find great conditions on the Gummenalp, Hochsträss or Glogghüs. The little ones can look forward to the children's paradise "Skihäsliland" with an adventure playground and an igloo village.
Fans of traditional après-ski will not miss anything in Meiringen: in the huts at Käserstatt, Bidmi and Mägisalp the hustle and bustle will already be starting! The bars "Kuhstall" and "Aquarium" at the Käserstatt are especially good. Or stop at the futuristic panorama restaurant "Alpen Tower" on Planplatten, which offers a breathtaking panoramic view of 400 peaks. In the village, you can party extensively in the "Sherlock Lounge", the "Jam Rock" or the "Sherpa Club" to your heart's content.
If you would like to do some sports in the evening, night skiing on the Mägisalp - Reuti piste is a good option, which is offered every Friday from 3 January 2020 to 14 March 2020. However, if you are looking for a change from skiing, on New Yeas Eve as well as on every Wednesday evening from 5 February 2020 to 4 March 2020 you have the opportunity to take a sleigh down the family-friendly Mägisalp - Bidmi toboggan run. Afterwards, you can enjoy a fondue or raclette meal in the "Berghaus Käserstatt". In addition, numerous activities such as snow shoe hikes, paragliding or ice skating await you. A visit to the climbing hall, the tennis centre or the local indoor swimming pool rounds off the sporting activities on offer. The Sherlock Holmes Museum could be particularly exciting for thriller fans.
With a total of 16.5 km of perfectly prepared tracks the Hasli valley lets cross-country skiers' hearts beat faster. The mainly intermediate difficulties take you through idyllic surroundings with fresh mountain air to breathe and enjoy. A particularly beautiful view can be found on the route alongside the Gadmerwasser river. With 15 km the longest trail in the entire network "Gadmen" lies at an altitude of 1,130 m to 1,210 m and can be skated on or used in classic style. A 7 km long section of the trails is also illuminated by flood lights. In the ski area itself the 1.5 km long Bidmi and Lischen trail can be enjoyed, which is particularly good for beginners. Additionally at Innertkirchen, Guttannen and Hofstetten there are further attractive and manageable trails.
