Zermatt is a municipality belonging to the district Visp in the Swiss canton of Valais. The village is situated at the end Mattertal valley at an altitude of 1620 meters, at the foot of the highest peaks in Switzerland. It spans a distance of 10 km from
Step Theodore border with Italy. Zermatt is famous for mountain activities and ski resorts that are found here.
The locality was known as one concerned with farming but the area has developed rapidly after some people showed interest in climbing, leading to many tourist facilities.
The village was discovered by several climbers including most notably Edward Whymper, who conquered the Matterhorn mountain, making the city so well known.
